CHRONIC PAIN & JOINT RELIEF TREATMENTS

A Kaysville Pain Management Treatment for Radiating Nerve Pain

If you're experiencing radiating pain from your lower back down your leg, you may be suffering from sciatica—a condition caused by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve. At Lifespring Pain Management Center, we offer sciatic nerve block injections to help relieve this discomfort and restore your quality of life.

WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW

About Sciatic Nerve Block Treatment

The sciatic nerve is the longest and widest nerve in the body, responsible for sensation and movement in much of the lower body. When compressed due to a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease, it can cause sharp, shooting pain down the back, buttocks, and legs.

A sciatic nerve block is a minimally invasive injection that delivers targeted relief by bathing the affected nerve in a combination of anesthetic and steroid medication.

What to Expect:
  • The treatment area is sterilized and numbed with a local anesthetic.
  • You will remain awake and comfortable throughout the procedure.
  • Your physician may use fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance to accurately position the injection needle.
  • A small amount of contrast dye may be used to confirm the pathway of the sciatic nerve.
  • Once confirmed, the medication mixture is slowly injected to reduce inflammation and block pain signals.

The entire procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and takes just a few minutes to complete.

After the Treatment

After the injection:

  • You’ll be monitored for a short period before being discharged.
  • Mild side effects like soreness, dizziness, or nausea may occur as the anesthesia wears off.
  • Plan to rest for 24 hours and avoid strenuous activities.
  • Most patients can return to work or light duties the next day.
How Long Does It Last?

Pain relief from a sciatic nerve block can begin within a few days of treatment. For many patients, relief lasts several weeks to a few months, depending on the severity of the condition and individual response. If needed, the procedure can be safely repeated.
