NECKPAIN TREATMENTS

A Kaysville Pain Management Treatment for Chronic Neck Pain

If chronic neck pain is interfering with your daily life, cervical facet radiofrequency neurotomy may offer the lasting relief you need. This outpatient procedure targets the small nerves in your neck that send pain signals from the facet joints, using radiofrequency heat to interrupt those signals.

WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW

About Cervical Facet Radiofrequency Neurotomy Treatment

Cervical facet joints are located in the neck and can become painful due to arthritis, injury, or inflammation. During this procedure, your Lifespring Pain Management Center provider uses radiofrequency energy to create a small lesion on the medial nerves responsible for transmitting pain.

Here’s what to expect:
  • You’ll lie face down and receive a light sedative for relaxation.
  • The treatment area is sterilized and numbed.
  • Using fluoroscopy (live X-ray), your physician guides a cannula to the targeted nerve.
  • A thin radiofrequency electrode is inserted to stimulate and confirm the correct nerve.
  • Once verified, the nerve is numbed, and heat is applied to create the lesion.
  • The process can be repeated for additional nerves as needed.

This procedure does not require incisions and is generally completed in under an hour.

After the Treatment
  • Patients are monitored briefly and typically return home the same day (someone else must drive).
  • Mild soreness or stiffness at the treatment site is common for a few days.
  • Your provider may recommend pain medication and heat or ice therapy for comfort.

What to Expect:

  • Pain may temporarily persist until the nerve is fully deactivated (typically 3–4 weeks).
  • Most patients experience pain relief that lasts 9–14 months, with some enjoying results up to 2 years.
  • In rare cases, pain relief may be minimal, and the procedure can be repeated if the nerves regenerate.
Who It Helps

Cervical facet radiofrequency neurotomy is often recommended for:

  • Chronic neck pain due to facet joint arthritis
  • Persistent pain following whiplash or injury
  • Patients who responded well to a medial branch block
