BACK & SPINE PAIN TREATMENTS

Targeted Relief for Lower Back & Pelvic Pain in Kaysville, UT

Pain in the lower back, hips, or buttocks may be more than muscle strain—it could be coming from your sacroiliac (SI) joint. This small but critical joint connects your spine to your pelvis and can become inflamed due to injury, arthritis, or stress on the joint. A Sacroiliac Joint Steroid Injection is a highly effective, non-surgical treatment designed to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief right at the source.

At Lifespring Pain Management Center, we offer image-guided SI joint injections to help patients move freely, sit comfortably, and return to daily activities without constant discomfort.

WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW

What Is an SI Joint Steroid Injection?

A Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Steroid Injection involves delivering a potent anti-inflammatory medication (steroid) and a local anesthetic directly into the SI joint to reduce swelling and block pain signals. This treatment is both therapeutic (providing relief) and diagnostic (confirming the joint as the source of pain).

Common symptoms that may indicate SI joint dysfunction:
  • Pain in the lower back, buttocks, or groin
  • Discomfort when standing or sitting for long periods
  • Stiffness or reduced range of motion
  • Pain that worsens with walking, climbing stairs, or rising from a chair

The entire procedure usually takes 15–30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Preparation

You’ll lie on your stomach while the area around the SI joint is cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic.

Imaging Guidance

Using fluoroscopy (live X-ray), your physician carefully guides a needle into the sacroiliac joint space.

Injection

A small dose of corticosteroid and anesthetic is injected into the joint. This reduces inflammation and numbs the area to relieve pain.

Completion

The procedure typically takes 15–30 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.

After the Procedure
  • You’ll be observed briefly and then allowed to return home.
  • A friend or family member should drive you due to the anesthetic effects.
  • Mild soreness at the injection site is normal and typically resolves within a day or two.
  • The anesthetic may provide immediate relief; longer-lasting effects from the steroid typically begin within 2–3 days.
Post-care tips may include:
  • Avoid strenuous activity for 24–48 hours
  • Use ice packs if soreness occurs
  • Follow-up as directed for ongoing care

If you experience fever, redness, or increased swelling at the injection site, contact our office immediately.
