If you’ve been living with chronic back and leg pain from lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and conservative treatments haven’t helped, but you're not ready for open surgery, the Superion® Indirect Decompression System (IDS) may offer the relief you need—without long recovery times or surgical trauma.
At Lifespring Pain Management Center, we’re proud to be among the first providers in the region trained and certified to offer this FDA-approved, cutting-edge treatment for moderate lumbar spinal stenosis.
The Superion IDS is a minimally invasive spinal implant designed to relieve pressure on the spinal nerves caused by moderate lumbar spinal stenosis. This condition narrows the spinal canal and can lead to painful compression of nerves, resulting in leg pain, cramping, and difficulty walking or standing upright.
The Superion device acts as a spacer placed between the spinous processes in the lower back to gently open the narrowed space and restore nerve function—without cutting or removing bone or tissue.
You may be a candidate for the Superion IDS if:
Preparation
The procedure is performed under light sedation in an outpatient surgical center or hospital setting.
Implant Delivery
A small incision is made in the lower back. The Superion device, made of titanium, is inserted using specialized tools and positioned between the vertebrae—without damaging nearby bone or tissue.
Stabilization
The implant props open the spinal canal space, relieving nerve compression and allowing you to stand upright without pain.
Recovery
The entire procedure typically takes less than an hour, and most patients return home the same day.
Patients are typically encouraged to walk and return to light daily activities within a few days.
Our board-certified providers at Lifespring Pain Management Center are specially trained in the Superion Vertiflex procedure. If you're seeking a less invasive path to lasting relief from LSS, this may be the right treatment for you.
